Marriott International, the holding company of the Marriott Brand, has announced that it will manage two hotels in Vancouver which are to be built alongside the construction of the Parq Casino, which is set to open next to B.C. Place next January. Out of the two hotels, one will be part of the ‘Autograph Collection,’ Marriott’s new range of boutique hotels, and the other named the Douglas will feature the city’s largest ballroom.
The hotels will not be owned by Marriott and instead will be acquired by Parq Holdings, who is currently developing the Parq Hotel. The project in total will amount to around $600 million and is set to be a big boost to the economy. Parq Holdings is an affiliate of of Paragon Development, who have been through rocky times of late, with their president Michael Graydon – who at the time was also CEO of the B.C. Lottery Corporation – left the position after a conflict of interests was claimed. Ultimately, though, no wrongdoings has been alleged and no charges have yet been filed.
License to carry over to Edgewater Casino
The Parq Casino and subsequent hotels will carry over the license of the Edgewater Casino, which will in turn be closed. In total the whole complex will cover 675,000 sq. ft. of which 72,000 sq. ft. worth of floorspace will be taken up by the casino. On the Parq Casino floor you will find 600 slot machines and 75 tables games. There will also be 4 restaurants available for players to wine and dine. Also planned is a 6,000 sq. ft. spa and 5,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
There will also be plenty of space to stay with around 898 rooms in total, with 569 in their new ‘Autograph’ hotel and 329 in ‘The Douglas’ To round everything off there will be 50,000 sp. ft. of food and beverage space for all customers and a multi-storey car park for all customers to use.
