Are Genting Singapore moving into Japan?
As the legislation to make gambling legal in Japan came into effect officially before the end of 2016, regional leisure, hospitality and integrated resorts development specialist Genting Singapore are in line to build a casino resort.
Genting Singapore are said to have ‘sufficient financial resources’ and are well-placed to build the integrated resort in Japan. This is believed to cost between $7 and $12 billion, but luckily the company have posted a rise in overall revenues for the final quarter of 2016.
Content agreement signed in the UK
Over in the UK, game studio Blueprint Gaming – which is part of Germany’s Gauselmann Group – has signed a content agreement with developer Gamesys.
This will see Blueprint gaining access to its slot portfolio and will provide content to both their online and mobile platforms. Blueprint Gaming MD Matt Cole highlighted the growth of his company over the last 12 months with this deal boosting growth even further.
Will Macau’s casinos keep their smoking lounges?
Fernando Chui Sai On, Macau’s Chief Executive is unaware of a financial decision on the proposal to retain smoking lounges in the casinos in the city.
Bans have taken place in indoor smoking in public places in the city, but the only places left with smoking areas are the VIP gaming areas of casinos. This issue is being studied at the moment and it seems a decision is incoming.
GameSense to be implemented this year
British Colombia Lottery Corp (BCLC) and gambling giants MGM Resorts International have announced their collaboration for the GameSense program. This will be fully implemented by the end of the year in all MGM properties, such as the Bellagio, Luxor and Excalibur, which will encourage gamers to adopt certain behaviours such as setting time and money limits. Information centres will be located at MGM properties, with a possibility of kiosks on the casino floors.
Monarch ended 2016 on a high
Monarch Casino and Resort Incorporated released un-audited financial results for the final quarter of 2016 – an impressive 8 per cent increase year-on-year, and net revenues are up to $55.6 million. Net income for the company rose for a ninth consecutive quarter to $6.47 million and casino revenues improved by 9.6 percent to $43.24 million. For 2016, a profit of $24.6 million was reported.
