Five poker players were caught red handed cheating a London casino out of £33,600 playing three-card poker at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino it has been revealed.

Although far over the pond, it just goes to show that casino cheats can be found worldwide. The scam involved two players switching cards to create a winning hand, while a third person distracted the dealer and a fourth accomplice acted as a lookout.

The five suspects in question are Ergun Yasar, Tarik Nergiz, Murat Kolcak, Ozgur Aytekin and Ali Kuya. Yasar and Nergiz’s trials have already began and both have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to cheat between the dates of April 4th and May 2nd, way back in 2014. It didn’t take long for the two to admit their wrongdoings with the pair admitting guilt during the first day of proceedings at the Old Bailey.

Not an innocent plea in sight…

The three other co-defendants soon followed suit and pleaded guilty, almost straight after. the other two announced their pleas. Seems this was essentially a house of cards operation and once the bottom falls out, the rest give way, and the whole operation tumbled down in front of their eyes.

Judge Charles Wide, who is managing proceedings at the Old Bailey, has adjourned all five’s sentencing until February 9th. Wide has refused to rule out a jail sentence for the five, warning that there should be “no promises, no expectation.” It might transpire that Wild will make an example of the five and dish out harsher sentences, but of course, we can only speculate.

Yasar, who is from Tottenham and Nergiz, from Hackney, remain on bail for the foreseeable future.
