For most of us, poker is a highly entertaining game, where we can try and bluff our way to victory and get one over the table, and with Lucky Nugget Casino, it can be played anywhere. However, for others it’s a career.

Germany boast several top-class poker players that have all made an impact on the world stage. Ole Schemion was recently victorious at the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam, whilst Fedor Holz has maintained his lead in the race to be crowned Global Poker Index (GPI) player of the year.

Schemion scoops top prize

Ole Schemion recorded his latest victory at the main event in Amsterdam

The Master Classics of Poker celebrated its 25th anniversary and to mark the occasion, the organisers made the main event a €25,000 buy-in. Attracting 13 entrants in total, this resulted in a prize pool of €321,750 that would be distributed to the top three players.

After the first day Schemion was nicely positioned in third place and quickly made a move to get ahead of the rest of the table. His class would tell throughout the second day and he saw off Frank Williams to collect €160,875 for winning, along with a special plate and a Heineken mug!

This is the latest win in the 24-year old’s glittering career, where he is second on the all-time German list with earnings of a massive $11.4m.

Holz stays clear at the top

Fedor Holz Poker
Fedor Holz has career winnings of over $20m

The only man ahead of Schemion is Fedor Holz, who is way clear with career winnings over $20m, and has already established himself as one of the greats of the game, despite being 23. Holz has kept up excellent form throughout 2016 and is on course to win the GPI player of the year with just one month remaining.

It is the 25th week that he has sat at the top of the leaderboard, which is the longest streak ever to have been recorded since the GPI began. Therefore, it’s going to take a dramatic late change to stop him grabbing this year’s award which demonstrates just how good he is at the tables.

The top two players from the country have proved their worth with successes over the recent weeks, and given the age of Holz and Schemion their impact on poker could continue for a long time yet.
