Germany has produced several extremely talented poker players over the years. Fedor Holz is the standout player, having amassed over $23m in his career at just 23. And, whilst he has firmly established himself as one of the best players on the planet, the likes of Ole Schemion, Christoph Vogelsang and Tobias Reinkemeier wouldn’t be too far behind.

However, it was recently the turn of 23-year old Jens Lakemeier to hit the headlines after he managed to secure a prestigious World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet for his win in Vegas.

Lakemeier lands personal best at WSOP event

The German entered the 2017 WSOP $2,500 Big Bet Mixed tournament where he was one of 179 entrants, in the gambling capital of the world. After a strong start to the game, Lakemeier was the chip leader heading into the final table, although he was still left with a lot of work to do.

With only six players returning to the final table, the stakes really increased. Whilst the first player dropped out quickly, it would be hours until the next player left. Slowly, more were eliminated and Lakemeier was left up against Jason Stockfish, however, the German had a hugely significant lead with his chips.

That meant victory looked inevitable, and it didn’t take long until it was confirmed. Stockfish left with just under $70,000 whereas, Lakemeier secured $112,232 and perhaps equally as importantly, the gold bracelet. It was actually the second time that Lakemeier had managed to make the final table at a WSOP event, having done so previously back in 2015.

What next for Jens Lakemeier?

Despite the significant win and his second ever biggest cash win, Lakemeier is 74th when it comes to the all-time money list for German players, which goes to show the depth and quality that the country has produced.

Yet, it’s fair to assume that this is only the start for the youngster, who has already shown he has great variation when it comes to his poker skills. He has finished in the money at No Limit Hold’em, 8-game, Omaha Hi-Lo, Dealers choice and several other events. Furthermore, the recent victory has boosted his Player of the Year and Global Poker Index points, which will see his stock rise. So, he’s certainly a name to keep an eye on for any poker fans.
