It’s been four long years since Microgaming ditched the Lord of the Rings slot — here at Lucky Nugget we were pretty devastated. What’s worse is that it’s been a decade and a half since the original Lord of the Rings movie came out in 2001. Well, because it seems so long ago. we’ve decided to look back and come up with some reasons why missed and should be brought back!

For Isengard!

1. It’s the Lord of the Rings!

Whether you’re a lover of Tokien’s original tales or Peter Jackson’s hit trilogy, the LOTR has a special place in the hearts of most. Maybe the Balrog’s killing of Gandalf shocked you to your core in the Fellowship of the Ring, or it could be jubilation when Gandalf returns as Gandalf the White in the Two Towers. Either way, you’ve all felt that connection to Frodo and that been in awe of Sam’s pure bravery. If you’re not a fan of the Lord of the Rings, then you’re definitely missing out!

2. Lord of the Rings is just better than Batman!

When Microgaming announced that they were to replace their LOTR slot with Batman, every Tolkien fan wept. Sure, Batman is awesome, it really is! Let’s be honest though, the setting behind Gotham’s crime-fighter can be a little… industrial. Lord of the Rings is mystical, fantastical and full of awesome, mind-blowing art; Batman looks like a dilapidated city full of thugs and criminals (well, because it is). Sure, it makes a pretty awesome slot, but come on, LOTR looks so much better!

3. There could have been other LOTR slots!

Apparently, before Microgaming shut down their LOTR slot, there were two more planned. The original was themed on the Fellowship of the Ring, and so we could have expected to see two more based on the The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Who knows, maybe the final bonus round could have involved pushing Smeagol into the volcano, with him screaming ‘my precious’ at the top of his lungs, triggering a jackpot multiplier. Imagine that, a bonus feature taking place on Mount Doom! Oh, the possibilities were endless!

Ah well, guess we’ll just have to sit around and play other slot games until something LOTR-themed comes along. At least we tried Frodo, at least we tried!
