Even though we know your favourite form of entertainment will be playing casino games with Lucky Nugget Casino, going to the movies is enjoyable. Whether you’re reading the local paper or watching TV, there always seems to be an advert of a cool, upcoming film that grasps your attention.
Therefore, we’ve decided to compile a list of the big movie releases in September for you to look at.
American Made
Tom Cruise stars as Barry Seal in this biographical crime film that details the hectic nature of Seal’s life. In the 1970s, Seal was a commercial airline pilot, however he was approached by the CIA who asked him to run missions over South America using small cameras. At this time, South America and Colombia in particular, was rife with drugs.
During one mission, a Medellin Cartel pick up Seal and he ends up flying cocaine to the US for them in a major operation. As his life spirals out of control, Seal finds it tougher to keep both sides happy in his new role, as he begins delivering guns too.
When the CIA abandon the operation, Seal is left to deal with the FBI, DEA and other law enforcement who force the pilot to make a deal. This makes Seal a wanted man amongst the Cartel, led by Pablo Escobar.
The film is released on September 29 in America. Fans of hit Netflix show Narcos will also recognise Seal, who featured in that show.
It
This supernatural horror film was released on September 8, setting numerous box-office records and grossed $189m worldwide. It is based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Stephen King and is directed by Andy Muschietti.
Starring the likes of Bill Skarsgard, Jaeden Lieberher and Bill Denbrough among others, the film tells the story of seven children who are terrified by Pennywise the Dancing Clown, or It. After each child is individually traumatised by the clown, they eventually come to realise they’re all impacted by the same entity.
With many twists and turns along the way, this is one that will likely to have you screaming and hiding behind the sofa – as all good horror films do. If you think you can handle it, It is in cinema’s across the world now.
The film has received plenty of positive reviews and has been called one of the best King adaptations around by many critics.
Home Again
If horror movies aren’t your thing, then Home Again might be for you. This is a romantic comedy written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer, in her directorial debut. It was released on September 8 and grossed $8.5m, putting it second in the box-office chart for the week.
The film stars Reese Witherspoon as Alice McKinney who has recently separated from husband Austen, played by Michael Sheen. The single Mom then decides to move back to her home town of Los Angeles. It’s a night out in LA, celebrating her 40th birthday, where Alice meets three aspiring film-makers who need a place to stay.
Alice agrees to give the young guys stay with her on a temporary basis and things take an unexpected turn. However, there’s a twist when her new romance and life back home comes to a halt thanks to her ex-husband coming back to find her.
American Assassin
American Assassin is an action thriller film, directed by Michael Cuesta and written by Stephen Schiff, Michael Finch, Edward Zwich and Marshall Herskovitz. It’s based on the 2010 novel of the same name that was written by Vince Flynn.
After tragic events in his life that saw his parents killed in a car crash as a teenager and more recently his girlfriend to a terrorist attack, Mitch Rapp, played by Dylan O’Brien, is all out for revenge.
He is enlisted by the CIA as a black ops recruit and assigned a Cold War veteran to train with – Stan Hurley, played by Michael Keaton. They investigate a wave of random attacks, eventually discovering a pattern. This sees them join forces with a lethal Turkish agent as they look to stop the mysterious operative, known as ‘Ghost’ from starting a war in the Middle East.
The film is released on September 15.
Stronger
Finally, we bring you a film that is sure to be emotional and inspirational in equal measure. Stronger is a biographical drama directed by David Gordon Green and written by John Pollano. It’s based on the memoirs of Jeff Bauman and Bret Witter after the horrific 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
The attack caused Bauman to lose both legs and the film displays how he adapts to his new life, including attempting to walk again. Bauman is played by Jake Gyllenhaal, with support roles for Tatiana Maslany, Miranda Richardson and Clancy Brown, as you see exactly what sort of challenges these people faced.
This moving film is released on September 22 in the US.
